Albany Village Art Show

By June 9, 2017Events

We are happy to welcome the public to come and enjoy some of our residents’ beautiful artwork and music.  The artists and musicians residing at Albany Village have been creative for many years now and still keep up with the hobbies that they love.  Now is our chance to share their talents with you on August 12, 2017 at 1:30pm- 3:30pm.

Two of the featured residents are Helen Preston and Sheila Smith. Helen (art pictured above) uses the computer program “Paint” to complete her original artwork while Sheila does small watercolour paintings.  Both residents will also show various pieces from earlier works.

Helen has been living at Albany Village for over twelve years. She has been painting since she was 5 years old, and has been painting on the computer for 7-8 years. She was taught to paint on the computer by Helen Cepek-Simpson (owner).

Helen’s specialty nowadays are birds. She paints many types of birds including hummingbirds, orioles, king fishers, wax wings, indigo buntings, and many more. On our library computer she has painted over 30 birds and is still busy painting more.  Helen is the type of person who likes to keep herself busy by painting on the computer, participating in BINGO on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as helping other residents with puzzles.

Sheila has lived at Albany for four years and still keeps up with her painting hobby.  Throughout her life, she has worked with watercolour and pottery. Pottery is Sheila’s favourite art form because it flows from her head to her hands. Sheila has had paintings featured at the Petrolia Library and also at the Royal Bank. These days, Sheila paints flowers with watercolour because it reminds her of the love she had for her gardens.
